The Ties that Bind Presented by Loeta Robles, DDS & Brooke Edgar, Oral Myofunctional Therapist, RDH

9 a.m. – 11:45 a.m.
This course will give an overview of the effects of tethered oral tissues from birth to
adulthood. We will present strong evidence supporting treatment of tongue-tie and lip-tie

controversial due to not having an accurate ability on how to assess, how to diagnose it,

enlarged tonsils, sleep disorders, nasal breathing, swallowing dysfunction, and how to
treat it. We will discuss the benefits of a collaborative approach to treatment in tethered
oral tissues, define a myofunctional therapist and their goals.
Objectives:
1. Discuss current methods of assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of tethered oral tissue.
2. The importance of the role of an IBCLC, bodywork therapy, and other adjunctive therapies in a comprehensive approach to treatment.
3. Consequences of untreated tethered oral tissue.
4. Review of cases from infancy into adulthood.
5. The role of a myofunctional therapist and goals of myofunctional therapy.
