SUMMARY:Joyce Bassett\, DDS - Things That Go Wrong Even When You Do Everything Right
DESCRIPTION:6 (CE Units) JOYCE BASSETT\, DDS\, FAACD\, FAGD\, practices comprehensive restorative and aesthetic dentistry in Scottsdale\, Arizona. She is an Accredited Fellow of the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry and President 2015-2016. She is a Diplomate of the American Board of Aesthetic Dentistry\, an Associate Member of the American Academy of Esthetic Dentistry\, a KOIS Clinical Instructor\, and an active member of the Academy of Fixed Prosthodontics\, and a Fellow in the AGD. Dr. Bassett also has served as adjunct faculty\, teaching the aesthetic continuum at the Arizona School of Dentistry. She is a member of the Catapult Group speaker’s bureau\, voted one of the top five female CE educators. Bassett is an international lecturer\, published author\, and member of the editorial board of several peer-reviewed publications. The cases presented in her lectures are all published in peer review journals (http://www.drbassett.com/publications.html). She is a recipient of the Lucy Hobbs award for Clinical Expertise\, the AACD Evy Award for Excellence in Teaching Cosmetic Dentistry Education\, the Volunteer Dentist of the Year award for Arizona CASS dental clinic\, and she has received the Give Back a Smile volunteer service award twice. \nThings That Go Wrong\, Even When You Do Everything Right \nThis innovative\, fast pace course will explore frequently seen problems that occur during restorative treatment\, showcasing a variety of modes of failure. She will explore state-of-the-art\, real-time digital design and link 3D prosthetic planning with fundamental smile design principles. You will learn systematic techniques to treat every aspect and ensure aesthetics that are BUILT TO LAST. These techniques can be used to both prevent and remedy these failures. While materials are often considered the cause of clinical failures\, more often the failure is a result of function\, incomplete planning\, decision-making\, and execution. When a clinical failure occurs\, there is often conflict and blaming between the dentist\, patient\, and laboratory technician. She will cover communication techniques that offer realistic patient expectations. Proven conflict resolution techniques to address these issues will be proposed\, as well as a checklist for careful patient and laboratory communication. There is something for everyone to learn. There are no unintended consequences\, only situations that were not well thought out. \nLearning Objectives:\n● Master the usage of systemized techniques to treat simple to complex cases with veneers\, crowns\, and implants\n● Obtain the knowledge of real-time digital smile design principles for both composite Provisionals and porcelain\n● Integrate sound occlusal principles to create synergy between form and function. Learning Outcomes…Participants will leave this presentation with:\n● A proven step by step approach to identifying and addressing difficult clinical situations\n● Master conflict resolution techniques with the usage of proper verbiage and checklists\n● Identify which adhesives and restorative materials work the best for maximum predictability

SUMMARY:BrianNovy\, DDS - Nobody Caries & Codependent Cariology
DESCRIPTION:Dr. Nový is the Chief Dental Officer of the Alliance Dental Center in Quincy\, Massachusetts. The California Dental Association Foundation presented him with the Dugoni Award for “Outstanding contributions to dental education\,” and his office was the first to receive the title\, “American Dental Association Adult Preventive Care Practice of the Year.” He served on the ADA Council of Scientific Affairs from 2010 to 2014\, and as chair of the CAMBRA coalition. In 2016 he was appointed the consumer advocate on the United States Food and Drug Administration Dental Products Panel. \nNOBODY CARIES (3 hours) \nSometimes it seems as though our patients don’t grasp the basic concept of home care. Other times our patients with impeccable hygiene develop rampant decay and we feel helpless because we can’t figure out what’s going on. The mouth is a remarkable environment that cariologists are finally beginning to understand\, and so can you. Come learn everything you didn’t know about plaque and the amazing organisms that make the mouth a wonderful place to work.\nAt the end of this course\, participants should be able to:\n• Explain the mixed ecological approach to caries causation\n• Apply Evidence Based and novel preventive therapies\n• Quickly identify high caries risk patients before they develop disease\n• Stop “watching” lesions and see them get smaller \nCODEPENDENT CARIOLOGY (3 hours) \nDepriving cariogenic bacteria of sugar is the cornerstone of traditional caries management\, yet the science of CAMBRA (Caries Management By Risk Assessment) takes cariology to a whole new level. If you’re still telling patients to\, “Brush\, floss\, and use fluoride toothpaste” you’re going to be surprised by the myriad of treatment options available today. Streptococcus mutans has more to fear than stronger fluoride and more of it\, as dentistry embraces oral healthcare.\nAt the end of this course\, participants should be able to:\n• Identify risk factors leading to caries\n• Explain the role of commensals\n• Implement disease management in practice\n• Prolong the life of restorations in all patient
